The International Friday Night Foyle’s War Club: Invasion!

It has beensimply chucking it down with rain all day and I’m looking forward very much indeed to having a cosy evening tucked up on the sofa under a rug, ready to watch tonight’s exciting Foyle’s War installment. Bliss!!!

Hurrah!!! It won’t matter how much it’s pouring outside, we shall all be far too busy solving murder, and wiping out illegal distilleries in crime- ridden Hastings, to notice. Also, I shall be very involved admiring DCS Foyle’s hat and waistcoat at the same time – (multi-tasking).

Club notes:

Tonight all the Actual Members of the Friday Night Foyle’s War Club will be watching together again except for Lady Egality (Club Treasurer) who is walking (boating?) in Yorkshire.

HURRAH!

Club Minutes:

Apologies: Lady Egality

Attendees: (Virtual): Martha from America, MohairMK, Kitchentease, C. Nelson, Digby D, ayresorchids and hopefully our newest member, Miss Peppermint.  (Actual): The Graf von Blommehön (Chairman), Lady Liberty (Club Secretary) Lady Sebright and Colonel Pyncheon

Venue:  Castle Coop and various international locations.

Announcements:

1. The Committee are delighted to introduce Miss Peppermint and to welcome her to the International Friday Night Foyle’s War Club. I hope she will enjoy our meetings as much as I do.

2. As DCS Foyle is to help Captain John Keiffer drink a quart of Jack Daniels tonight, an executive decision was taken pretty early on here in Castle Coop to throw catering caution to the winds. Tonight we shall be drinking Margaritas on the Rocks which the Graf (Chairman) and Colonel Pyncheon will be mixing. Col. P’s Sloe Glow is very strong so if we all start to keel over, we will know that the Graf has been led off the straight and narrow.

The Mixologist Eben Freeman, of Tailor restaurant in New York City has kindly put his recipe for Margaritas on youtube:

and the Graf and Col. P have promised to follow it – more or less. More with the tequila and less with the lime as between us we only have lemons.

We seem to have been incredibly heavy-handed with the salt too but we’ve agreed not to mind.

We’ve decided to eschew biscuits tonight in favour of olives.

2. A reminder to all Club Members – virtual and actual: don’t forget to place a Foyle’s War picture in the room where you are attending the meeting. Ours for tonight is a picture of Sam Steward looking out of the driver’s window in the police car and shows her cap badge rather well. She looks very young! Incredible to think how much responsiblity young men and women from the war generation, shouldered.

The Graf has a soft spot for Sam Stewart and he chose this picture for tonight’s meeting.

Tonight the International Friday Night Foyle’s War Club will be watching:

 Episode 1, Series 4

“Invasion”

Plot:

March 1942: The US Army Corps of Engineers arrives in Hastings to build an aerodrome and Foyle needs to calm a local farmer whose land has been requisitioned by the government. Foyle also gets hooked into giving a lecture to the American GIs on local customs. It all takes a more serious turn when a local barmaid, Susan Davies, is found strangled. She had been seeing one of the GIs and was pregnant, but was also involved selling illegal whiskey for her employer, Alan Carter. Meanwhile Sgt. Milner investigates the death of friend, Will Grayson, who died in a house fire. He had been drinking at Carter’s pub but wasn’t drunk when he left and Milner can’t quite figure out why his friend didn’t get out of the burning house in time. Finally, Sam gets unhappy news from boyfriend Andrew. (http://www.imdb.com/)

The same web-site includes quotes from the episodes…

A great line (which I shall look out for tonight):

Captain John Kieffer: ‘I’m new here. I know how you British are always murdering each other, but I didn’t expect to get caught up in it…’

For any new visitor, may I recommend an interesting and welcoming site ‘Quietly Enigmatic‘ if you want to discuss Foyle’s War/ Michael Kitchen on a forum?

Yours hoping that none of the Actual Members murder each other tonight even though we’re British (apart from the Graf),

  1. I would like to thank the Committee for welcoming me to the club and apologies for not attending last night as my old interwebby had a malfunction; I will be present and correct (hopefully) next week.

    • It’s lovely to have you as our newest Virtual member! See you next week!
